Launching the results of the International Landmine Monitor Report at University of Balamand

In order to inform the international community of the latest developments related to the problem of mines and cluster bombs in Lebanon and the world, the MRE - Balamand University, in cooperation with the Lebanon Mine Action Center, organized a workshop at St. George's Health Complex, Balamand University, Ashrafieh, 27/12/2017 on the launching of the results of the International Observatory on Mines and Cluster Bombs, in which Brigadier General Ziad Nasr, the Director of the Lebanon Mine Action Center, participated with the LMAC officers, and was attended by a number of representatives of United Nations organizations, members of the National Awareness Committees and assistance to mine victims and a number of media covered the workshop, the following activities:

 

- Welcoming speech by Dr. Nadim Karam, Vice President of Balamand University

- The speech of Brig. Gen. Ziad Nasr stated that the release of the results of the International Monitoring Report on mines and cluster bombs would not have been possible without the efforts of the army in cooperation with international and national NGOs working in the area of demining and the national committees for mine risk education and victim assistance and the United Nations agencies, hoping that the day will come when Lebanon will be declared free of mines and cluster bombs. He also pointed out that the problem of the injured, the affected and their families ends only at the end of the life cycle, and that our moral obligation obligates us to seek to secure the needs of these victims for life and renew our support to them.

- Speech by the National Committees for Awareness of the Risks and Assistance to Mine Victims delivered by Imad Khoshman

- Word of mine casualties delivered by Mr. Mohammed Kassem Yousef

The International Campaign to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munitions (ICBL), Ms. Amelie Chieh, announced via Skype the findings of the International Observatory on landmines and Cluster bombs.
At the end of the workshop, a luncheon was held at the Diwan Beirut - Ashrafieh restaurant.
