We Run for Arsal

We Run for Arsal – October 26th, 2018 – 3 Km Marathon aiming to raise the awareness of the risk of mines and unexploded ordnance in Arsal and surrounding region.

The event, hosted by the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC) in coordination of the Mine risk education (MRE) steering committee, included 500 student from Arsal and surrounding villages with ages ranging between 10 and 14 years old along with LAF staff and civilians from different NGOs

During the event, the following MRE activities were conducted:

  • Dummy mines, and unexploded ordnance were displayed enabling the participants to visually identify different shapes and threats of mines and ERW.
  • A virtual mine field was established, in which a demining team from the Engineering regiment conducted a manual clearance operation
  • A team of explosives detection dogs (EDD) conducting a land inspection.
  • Awareness leaflets and brochures were dessiminated to participants. .

During the marathon, T-shirts, caps, balloons, medals and gifts were distributed to the participants in an environment of fun, entertainment and awareness.

The event was highly acknowledged by the audience, showing great support to the Lebanese army and the LMAC.

This event was funded by UKAID and supported by UNDP.
