IMAS EOD Level 3

Objective:
Aims to train experienced operators in identifying, disarming, and neutralizing unexploded ordnance (UXO) and other explosive devices.Prerequisites:
No prerequisites are required, but it is preferable for participants to be EOD Level 1 or 2 qualified.Duration:
5 weeks, 5 days per week (Monday to Friday)
8 hours per day, for a total of 200 hours.

Skills Acquired:

a. Theory and Knowledge:
  • Explosives theory and demolition accessories.
  • Execution of low-order techniques and render safe procedures (RSP).
  • Fuzes (arming, initiation, and RSP procedures).
  • Ammunition design – Land Surface Ammunitions (LSA) (focus on munitions found in Ethiopia).
  • Ammunition marking systems and color codes.
  • General safety precautions for all LSA munitions.
  • Contamination patterns.
  • General knowledge of IEDs and booby traps.
  • Mapping.


b. Equipment Skills:

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communication.
  • First aid kit.
  • Recognition kit.
  • Demolition kit.
  • Hook and line.
  • Disarmament tools.
  • Fuze wrench.
  • Tape and wire.


c. Practical EOD Skills:

  • Threat assessment.
  • Arrival and witnesses.
  • Secure access.
  • Explosive Ordnance Recognition (EOR).
  • Briefing, planning, and working from the CP.
  • Assessing the safety of moving explosive ordnance.
  • Evacuation.
  • Protection and rehabilitation work.
  • Electrical grounding and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) procedures.
  • Demolition procedures, including RSP and final disposal of explosive remnants of war (ERW) and mines.
  • Misfire drills.
  • General safety for EOD work.
  • Victim evacuation procedures and first aid.


d. Management and Leadership:

  • EOD task management.
  • Operational context and awareness.
  • Human factors.
  • CDS management and operations.
  • Risk management.
  • Quality management.


e. Deployment and Post-Task:

  • Task allocation chain.
  • Team composition compliance.
  • Medical evacuation chain.

  • EOD activity reporting.
  • Introduction to the EOD logbook.


g. Storage and Transport:

  • Safety precautions for storing, transporting, and handling explosives.
  • Moving unsafe storage items.
  • AXO assessment.
