In the context of raising awareness about the dangers of mines among citizens, especially school students, the Lebanon Mine Action Center delivered an awareness session to the students of Kfar Rumman Elementary School in Kfar Rumman, Nabatiyeh, on 20/11/2017, where mines, cluster bombs, explosives, forms, types and how to prevent their risks and proper behavior towards them.

On 12/11/2017, in the Hamra-Beirut, organized by the Beirut Marathon Association, the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC), a UNMAS team working in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and members of the National Steering Committees participated in the activities of the Beirut Marathon in 2017. LMAC held a platform on the course of the 8 km race, showing pictures of mines, cluster bombs, unexploded ordnance, warning signs and a mannequin wearing a PPE and Visor holding a detector. The platform was briefed on the dangers of mines and how to prevent their dangers and distributed flyers, posters and awareness materials from different mine risk to the participants in the race targeting different age groups, in addition to broadcast patriotic songs by the way.

In the context of cooperation between the Lebanon Mine Action Center and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in mine action, particularly in the field of mine risk education, launched since November 2016, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) organized an awareness day at Yarin Primary School, which included a lecture on the role of blue-flagged barrels on the Blue Line and a mine risk education lecture conducted by a representative from the Lebanon Mine Action Center explaining the scope of the problem of mines and how to prevent it and how to behave properly.

National MRE Campaign April 2017

LMAC launched a national Mine Risk Education (MRE) campaign during the whole month of April 2017 in cooperation with the National Steering Committee on MRE and with the support of UNIFIL, the EU, UNICEF and UNMAS. April 2017’s campaign was particularly marked by a range of sporting events and using fun interactive tools promoting safety measures targeting the community and the LMAC’s partners.
