One of the LMAC MRE department staff attended 9 days training workshop titled “Developing Effective MRE” in Geneva during the period 18 to 27 September 2017. The workshop is aimed at mine action officials and practitioners from mine-affected countries, officials from mine action agencies in donor countries, and other representatives as specifically selected by the Swiss Ministry of Defense and UNICEF. Therefore, this course contributed to the development of the following skills:
The Director of the Lebanon Mine Action Center Brig General Ziad Nasr attended the 7MSP to the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) that took place from 4 to 6 September 2017 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The 7MSP, presided by Germany, marked the second formal meeting of the Convention after the adoption of the Dubrovnik Action Plan, a five-year action (2015-2020) plan that provides a roadmap for States Parties to implement and universalize the Convention. Around 400 participants from States, international and non-governmental organizations took part in this meeting that aimed to take stock of the implementation of the CCM’s steering action plan.
During June and July 2017 (26th of June 2017 till 1st of July 2017), the LMAC director along the head of the RSHDL visited the School for Humanitarian demining in Benin, central Africa. This visit intended to get a deep overview on the training courses delivered in the school and take an opportunity to exchange expertise and knowledge in the demining context.
During June and July 2017 (22nd of June till 21st of July 2017), an RSHDL officer attended a 4-week IMAS Level 3 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Course in Skive, Denmark. The course is originally designed by DCA for its own employees, but some slots have been allocated also for participants from other mine action organizations. This course aimed to bring students up to IMAS EOD Level 3, thus allowing those who successfully pass the course to be certified by Danish Demining Centre (DANDEC).
